Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Skin Rejuvenation Therapy

WHAT IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)?
Your blood is made up of four main components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. Platelet-Rich Plasma contains nutrient-rich cells and protein growth factors that trigger cell production and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area.

HOW IS PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) PREPARED?
Platelet-Rich Plasma is produced when a small amount of blood is drawn and placed into a sterile, disposable container and then spun to separate the platelets from your blood sample, resulting in a Platelet-Rich Plasma. The PRP is then applied or injected to specific areas of the face to promote natural collagen growth and hair follicle growth.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP):

  • May promote tissue regeneration and healing.
  • Improves overall skin texture, decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, and plumps hollowing areas such as tear trough grooves, cheeks, and temples.
  • It can also help smooth both acne and surgical scars.
  • May improve symptoms such as inflammation, or hair thinning.
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is known as a “natural filler” treatment that gives a more youthful appearance to the skin with minimal downtime.
  • Non-surgical and minimally invasive.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) RISK AND CONDITIONS:
There are virtually no risks of allergies or sensitivity as PRP is derived from your own blood. PRP is actually blood plasma containing high concentrations of platelets that stimulate stem cells to help the body regenerate and heal at a faster rate. Although PRP therapy is generally considered safe, potential risks include:

  • Mild to moderate pain or discomfort at the injection site.
  • Bruising, swelling, or redness at the treated area.
  • Infection (rare but possible).
  • Nerve damage or injury to nearby structures (rare).
  • Allergic reactions (though rare, as PRP comes from your own blood).
  • Lack of desired improvement or need for additional treatments.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) TREATMENT CONTRADICTIONS:
You may not be a candidate for PRP therapy if you have:

  • Active infection or skin disease at the treatment site.
  • BSevere anemia or low platelet count.
  • Blood clotting disorders or use of anticoagulant medications.
  • Cancer, autoimmune diseases, or other significant medical conditions.

What are the risks of this procedure?

  • Alternative forms of management include not treating the skin wrinkles by any means.
  • Improvement of skin wrinkles may be accomplished by other treatments or surgery such as a facelift or forehead / brow lift when indicated.
  • Minor skin wrinkling may be improved through topical creams, chemical skin peels, lasers, injection of filling material, hyaluronic acid treatments, sculptra, or other skin treatments.
  • Surgical intervention, if appropriate.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) FACIAL PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION:

  • PRP Facial Rejuvenation takes about an hour to complete.
  • A topical numbing cream may be applied 30 minutes before the treatment to the treatment area to minimize discomfort during the procedure.
  • Next, 1-4 vials of blood are drawn and centrifuged to separate out a layer of concentrated plasma rich cells, platelets and growth factors. This layer is then extracted and injected into the skin using very fine needles.
  • Injecting PRP directly into the tissue allows your body to absorb and fully utilize all the benefits of your extracted platelet rich plasma.
  • Platelets in your blood are responsible for naturally promoting collagen production, cell growth, blood vessel growth and repair, and other anti-aging properties.
  • It can take up to 3 months for maximum collagen regeneration to occur. Most patients notice an improvement in their skin texture in the first month after the treatment.
  • It is recommended to have 2-3 treatments spaced at 6- 8 week intervals.
  • The results of PRP rejuvenation are long term with most patients receiving touch up treatments at one year to further stimulate collagen production and continued facial rejuvenation.
  • For more immediate improvement, we can combine the benefits of the PRP facial rejuvenation with Botox, fillers, micro needling, and laser skin resurfacing.
